As one of the world’s leading airlines, Qatar Airways flies to more than 130 destinationsoperating one of the youngest fleets in the sky. More than 200 new aircraft are on order to ensure that Qatar Airways continues to operate a fuel-efficient fleet. This investment underpins our commitment to the environment and ensures a first-class travel experience for our customers.

As a member of oneworld, Qatar Airways works with partner airlines to achieve even more efficient air travel. This includes supporting Air Traffic Control authorities to move towards more efficient airspace management and collaborating to enable passengers to use e-tickets throughout their global journey to reduce the printing of paper tickets.

Our global operations and varied business activities are subject to a wide range of environmental legislation.  As part of this, Qatar Airways is committed to complying with all local and international environmental regulations. 

The airline has already achieved IATA’s Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) accreditation at foundation level, and has now begun implementing additional environmental management system procedures to attain full certification to IEnvA stage 2.

Our focus is on optimising environmental performance across our highly modern fleet and throughout our state-of-the-art hub Hamad International Airport.  Our priorities involve fuel and energy efficiency, minimising waste and preventing pollution, and transportation of endangered species. Qatar Airways is an inaugural signature to the United for Wildlife Transport Industry Declaration.

Aviation will make a significant contribution to the global response to climate change, and we are contributing towards the development of local and international solutions.

Qatar Airways is collaborating with industry associations IATA and AACO and SAFUG on the development of a global policy for managing aviation’s greenhouse gas emissions and is fully compliant with regional schemes such as the European Union Emission Trading Scheme.

Qatar Airways is enhancing the efficiency of air travel through our fuel optimisation programme.  This involves testing and implementing new ways to save fuel and reduce carbon emissions such as:

• Identifying opportunities to reduce aircraft weight and fuel consumption
• Optimising efficiency of flight routes
• Reviewing the use of energy while taxiing to and from the runway.

At Qatar Airways Group, we believe in our responsibility to care for the environment.  We are committed to demonstrating environmental leadership through our global airline and airport operations, aviation and catering services, retail outlets and hotels. We openly communicate our environmental performance to develop the trust on which long-term environmental leadership is built.

Our 2015-2016 Sustainability Report focuses on the environmental issues that are most important to us and to our stakeholders.  It sets out the progress we are making towards our environmental objectives by presenting examples of what we are doing to continually improve our environmental performance.
