Uganda’s star is on the rise and the old Pearl of Africa is continuing to stand out as a key destination on the tourist trail through this part of Africa. This endlessly exciting country in many ways encapsulates what Africa is all about, as you’ll discover when you travel to Uganda with Qatar Airways to explore its remarkable wildlife, stunning landscapes and great cities for yourself.
Home to Africa’s tallest range of mountains, the fabled Mountains of the Moon, Uganda is famous for its national parks and incredibly diverse of wildlife. The world’s last remaining mountain gorillas have found a safe haven here, and several iconic African species live freely on the plains and in the mountain foothills and forests.
Uganda not only has the world’s biggest lake and mountain range, but it is also the source of the planet’s longest river, the mighty Nile. If you’re here on business you’ll probably be based in Kampala, a modern capital with buzzing entertainment venues and a vibrant nightlife, exceptional luxury shopping, and some great restaurants. However, the main attractions of Uganda undoubtedly lie outside the cities and in the country’s national parks and nature reserves. These can’t be beaten for providing a taste of the old Africa: wild and free and beautiful in every respect.
The biggest national park here is Murchison Falls, named after a prominent member of England’s Geographical Society who travelled across the country during the days of African exploration. The park is home to numerous protected species. Meanwhile, primates loom large in the African landscape and psyche, and at Uganda’s Kibale National Park you’ll find more than you bargained for. Tourists can track wild chimpanzees here under expert guidance, and see 13 other species of primate. Bring your camera and be prepared to capture some fast action in the canopy.
For a glimpse of rare mountain gorillas, head for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Otherwise, make your way to Lake Bunyoni –the most beautiful of all the African lakes— and explore steep hillsides, forests and 29 islands reminiscent of an exotic Lost World.
