Sometimes the best vacations are those taken off the beaten path. If you’re an intrepid traveler looking for some unique places to explore on your next getaway, browse through our top 15 lesser-known destinations that are bound to appease your appetite for adventure.

Pink lakes, Australia

Image of the Trigg Beach in Perth, Western Australia.

Western Australia’s pink lakes, Lake Hillier and Hutt Lagoon, are beguiling to say the least. These natural wonders exist due to the lakes’ high level of salinity which gives the waters an unusual pink hue. Both lakes can be accessed by car from Perth’s CBD, with Hutt Lagoon being the closest (five-hour drive), but we recommend taking a scenic flight to truly admire the bespoke scenes. From above, you are able to view the beautiful pink lake next to the contrast of the deep, blue Indian Ocean.

Railay Beach, Thailand

Only accessible by boat, Railay Beach is a remote destination that we recommend exploring when visiting Krabi. The secluded beach has the best of both worlds, as the jungle meets the ocean on the Railay Beach coastline. This beautiful island is perfect for rock climbers, beach-goers and curious jetsetters. Climb the picturesque limestone caves, snorkel through the turquoise waters and enjoy the blissful surrounds of a remote island.

Hajar Mountains, Oman

Known as the highest mountain range in the eastern Arabian Peninsula, Hajar Mountains is a spectacularly unique place to visit on a vacation taken off the beaten path. Alongside trekking through the rugged, rocky terrain and exploring the striking archaeological sites, we recommend that the adventurous travelers take a camping trip within the mountainous surrounds. Prepare yourselves, as the mountains get very chilly even in summer.
