Uncover the urban art scene hidden in Melbourne
Take a vacation to Melbourne and experience a city buzzing with arts, culture, design, performance (and incredible coffee). It is home to over 100 galleries, from contemporary art shops to impressive sculpture gardens and smalltime, independent art studios.
If galleries are high on your list, we recommend visiting the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. The world’s first major art gallery dedicated to displaying Australian art, it is filled with the most incredible works from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
If your creative interest lies in public art, we recommend wandering along the Yarra River to witness many of the city’s iconic pieces. Wander the streets in the city’s surrounding suburbs, Fitzroy and Prahan for more visual surprises.
Our top recommendation for enjoying Melbourne’s street art would be to order a cup of coffee and take a stroll down the iconic Hosier Lane for a glimpse of one of the most popular urban art spots in Melbourne.
