Tourist attractions

It’s worth buying a full day pass on your trip to Rome if you intend to visit attractions such as the Coliseum, Flavian Palace and the many museums of the city. Don’t miss the Pantheon in Old Rome, and the imposing Castel Sant’Angelo in the Vatican Area, created as Emperor Hadrian’s mausoleum. The famous Baths of Caracalla and Circus of Maxentius are also must-see sites.

If you’re a fan of art, take a trip to Campo Marzio, in the Villa Borghese area, where there is a whole cluster of great museums like the Museo Nazionale di Villa Giulia and Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, packed with old and new masterpieces.

Leisure activities

There are lots of world-class theatres here, and on a trip to Rome you should take in at least one show. The Auditorium is the city’s main concert venue, with three halls and an open-air amphitheatre. There are also plenty of colourful events throughout the year, from the anniversary of Rome’s founding in April to Republic Day in June.
The best way to experience Rome is by simply strolling around the Old City and dropping into places like the Planetarium, Wax Museum and Municipal Zoo, all of which are popular with kids too.

Eating in Rome

Rome is full of fabulous restaurants. There’s no one particularly famous area for dining out, and some of the best places are tucked away in what seem like the least promising areas. Many trattorie serving authentic cuisine are outside the Old City, but most restaurants here are pretty good so you can’t go far wrong.

Be sure to try delicious pizzas at the many Pizzerie al taglio, which are basically fast-food venues that serve pizzas by the slice. The best accompaniment to pizza is suppli, a blend of pepper roasted chicken and mozzarella croquettes.

Shopping in Rome

If you’re travelling to Rome for the shopping you’ve made an excellent choice because there are opportunities of every kind here. The premier shopping areas are the via Cola di Rienzo, via Condotti and via del Corso, which are full of designer stores and upmarket boutiques. Look out for exclusive leather goods and high-end fashion.

Euroma2 is a huge shopping centre selling mainly clothes and accessories, whilst the most stylish outlet in the city is La Rinascente, opened in 1887. There are also good factory outlets such as Castel Romano and Valmontone, where branded goods are plentiful.
