Book a flight to Los Angeles with Qatar Airways

Don’t just think ‘Hollywood’ when you fly to Los Angeles – this remarkable city is much more than film studios and celebrities.

There are hidden stairways that lead up through the hillside communities, plenty of history to discover, a coast that’s a paradise for anyone into watersports, shopping and gourmet dining too. Fly to Los Angeles and after you’ve done ‘the sights’, spend a bit more time discovering the real City of Angels.

Tourist attractions

Los Angeles has more than its fair share of iconic landmarks. The Hollywood sign is probably the best known and dominates the hillside. The original ‘Hollywood’ sign was constructed in 1923 and has undergone extensive restoration over the years. It is possible to take tours up to the sign, and no trip to Los Angeles is complete without at least one photograph of that distinctive landmark.

The star-studded Hollywood Walk of Fame outside Mann’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard is a must-see attraction of Los Angeles.  But there’s so much more too – from the remarkable art collections at the Getty Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, to concerts and sporting events at the Hollywood Bowl and Greek Theatre. A luxury meal on the Queen Mary is an interesting alternative to the usual restaurants, while a trip up Mount Hollywood will take you to the Griffith Observatory, built in 1935 and still contributing an important amount of astronomical research today.

Griffith Observatory is one of the largest parks of the world, and is home to several attractions including the Los Angeles Zoo.

Movie buffs can enjoy the big movie studios, which are all around the Los Angeles area.  Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Universal Studios all offer tours and are popular attractions for tourists.

Leisure activities

Take a trip to Los Angeles and you’ll quickly discover that this city of dreams offers you every conceivable type of leisure activity. From water sports at the decidedly laid-back Manhattan Beach (a haven for surfers, and much more relaxed than the commercialised Venice Beach) to every type of massage therapy you can think of, there are a thousand and one ways to relax in Los Angeles.

If you want to escape the relentless pace of life in Los Angeles, then the surrounding countryside is surprisingly beautiful and diverse. A particular favourite is the Mishe Mokwa Trail & Sandstone Peak – a six-mile hike through a red-rock canyon, to the oak forest at Split Rock and up to Mount Allen, the tallest mountain in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Eating in Los Angeles

No matter what your cuisine taste is, travelling to Los Angeles lets you eat your way around the world!  You can find some of the best Chinese food, as well as Vegan restaurants populated by movie stars. Gourmet food trucks are a huge hit in Los Angeles, and they serve everything from Korean BBQ tacos to Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, as well as American style burgers.

Exclusive dining can be found around Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive, but the sheer diversity of food on offer means that you’ll never run out of restaurants to explore. Closer to the coast you’ll find some excellent seafood restaurants (sea bass is a particular favourite, but also try mahi mahi, a rich, meaty fish that’s very popular in the Pacific Coast).

Shopping in Los Angeles

For high-end luxury shopping there’s probably few places that are more exclusive or more famous than Los Angeles’ Rodeo Drive. Lined with designer boutiques and some of the most expensive jewellery in the world, this is the place to go if your credit card limit is at least six figures! For exclusive, one-off boutique buys, head to Larchmont Boulevard, which is lined with quirky and original outlets.

There are dozens of malls to choose from, but for a more authentic Angelino experience head for Broadway in the Downtown area, or Alvarado Street near Wilshire Boulevard and 6th Street.
