Start off by trying ‘tea in a pot with two pieces’ – the Dim Sum cultural speciality in Guangzhou. Seafood and roasted chickens and ducks are also very popular.

The Guangzhou Restaurant is family run and renowned for its signature dishes. For food in a fabulous setting, try the Pan Xi Restaurant and dine amid stunning architecture and trickling streams.


Shopping in Guangzhou

When travelling to Guangzhou for shopping you’ll find that the back alleys have the most interesting goods on offer, and it’s also the best way to see the historic parts of the city. Specific trades tend to be concentrated along particular streets, such as Flower Street, Jade Street and Toy Street.

There are also large shopping centres such as Beijing Lu Pedestrian Street, the main shopping area. China Plaza is a popular mall with the locals, and you’ll find all the fashion and designer stores in the huge Guangzhou Mall, or Zhengjia Plaza.

Flights to Guangzhou land at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, one of the major hubs for Southern China, 17 miles north of the city centre. Take Metro Line 3 into town.
