Tourist attractions

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the biggest in the UAE and one of the largest in the world. It forms part of the distinctive cityscape, best viewed from the spectacular waterfront. You can walk the entire length of this and enjoy the stage shows and other entertainments on offer. For families with young children, a visit to Khalifa Park makes a great family day out, while a visit to Marina Island to see the tallest flagpole in the world should be on your ‘to do’ itinerary.

Any trip to Abu Dhabi can’t be completed without a trip to Ferrari World, where braver visitors can take a ride on the world’s fastest roller coaster. Adventure seekers on a trip to Abu Dhabi should ensure their time here includes a visit to Liwa Oasis. This beautiful part of the country is the perfect base from which you can  enjoy a guided desert safari or try sand skiing. If you’d like to travel a little further afield and explore the country in more detail, head to Al Ain. Known as the ‘Garden City’, it has a history stretching back over 4,000 years and is one of the most beautiful locations in the country.

Leisure activities

If you’re keen on swimming you’ll not be disappointed on your trip to Abu Dhabi. All the hotels have their own beaches and equipment is available for rent. Outside the city you can go on a desert safari and indulge in some ‘dune bashing’ in a 4X4.

One of the big attractions here is the Camel Race Track, where you can visit the paddocks as well as watch the races. This makes for a great day out as there are plenty of refreshments available too. Races are held on Thursdays and Fridays in winter.

Eating in Abu Dhabi

Indian and Chinese food is much in evidence in Abu Dhabi. Vegetarian food is especially prominent, and vegans are well catered for too.

Shopping in Abu Dhabi

When travelling to Abu Dhabi for shopping you’ll quickly discover that there’s a huge variety on offer. International chain stores rub shoulders with vast malls, and fashion items are especially well represented.

Abu Dhabi has become a popular centre for shopping, and the variety of goods on offer ranges from the ‘cheap and cheerful’ tourist trinkets through to high-end luxury goods. For the latter, head to Gold Souk in Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre.
