Bahrain in Arabic means “two seas”, appropriately named for its location between two seas. Bahrain’s status as a relatively liberal and modern Arabian Gulf state has made it a favourite with travellers from the region as well as from other countries.

Give the country’s rich culture and history there is varied places to visit for its old charm and modern innovations.

The National Museum, a modern building with excellent exhibits is a major attraction of Manama. The museum showcases exhibits that covers 7000 years of Bahrain’s history, Arabic writing and calligraphy. Beit Al-Qur’an, a museum and research center has a large collection of Qurans, some dating from as early as the 7th century.

Built during the Portuguese occupation, Bahrain Fort is an imposing sight on the edge of the sea. Ain umm Al-Sujour is famous for having the highest water spring in Bahrain. Bahrain is home to castles including Qal’at Al Bahrain, also knows as Bahrain Fort inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arad Fort or Qal'at 'Arad, built before the Portugese invasion of Bahrain, is another historical place to see, located close to the airport.

The most visited places in Bahrain are the Seyadi Mosque, Al Khamis Mosque and Ain Umm Al-Sujour Site.
