Though the area has been inhabited for many thousands of years, modern Perth began as a British settlement in the early 19th century. You’ll find many of the historic attractions in the Central Business District during your trip to Perth, including Australia’s oldest mint, The Perth Mint, still in operation, The Western Australian Museum and Art Gallery of Western Australia.
Archaeological evidence from Perth suggest that the Noongar people have lived in the area for at least 45,000 years. Most of the history and artefacts can be seen in the museum.
The Perth Town Hall is located on bustling Barrack Street. It was built by exiled convicts almost 150 years ago for the citizens of Perth. To trace the history of Perth back to where it started, visit the restored tower mill, an historic landmark located along the Swan River, first built in 1835.
Other Perth highlights include a visit to the expansive Kings Park and Botanic Gardens, the Swan Bell Tower located on the banks of the Swan River and Perth Zoo.
