Using innovative engineering and design, HIA will be the first airport in the world built to handle the Airbus A380—the world’s largest passenger aircraft.

Furthermore, the airport has been designed to take full advantage of the very latest advancements in security, communications, and passenger and cargo handling.

• The airport will be located on a total land area of more than 22 sq. km.
• At its peak, HIA will be able to handle 50 million passengers, two million tonnes of cargo, and 320,000 flights per year.
• At 350,000 sq. m., the main terminal will be the largest building in Doha—capable of holding 50 full-size football pitches.
• The check-in and duty-free shopping areas will be 12 times larger than those at the current airport.
• The energy-efficient main terminal will incorporate solar-resistant coatings, overhangs to create shade, carbon dioxide sensors, and daylight and occupancy monitors.
