Introducing Larnaca, Cyprus

Known for its Mediterranean climate, waterfronts, scenic vistas and stunning beaches, Larnaca is located on Cyprus' southernmost coast and is the third largest city in the country. Larnaca International Airport is the main international gateway to the island.

For things to do in Larnaca, head to the archaeological site of the ancient city of Kition, dating back to the 13th Century BC, or explore Larnaca Fort, a castle built in Medieval times which now houses a small museum. You can also visit the Hala Sultan Tekke Grand Mosque, which attracts thousands of visitors each year.  Or enjoy the splendid views of Larnaca Salt Lake, home to numerous species of wildlife, plants, and water birds such as pink flamingos.

Beyond Lanarca, there's plenty to explore. Escape the summer heat by driving up to the mountains of Troodos in the center of the island, where you can enjoy the charming scenery of local villages and cobbled streets amid terraced hill slopes, vineyards, and wild apple, cherry, and almond trees.

Head to Limassol for a stroll along the Limassol Promenade, seaside streets packed with shops, restaurants and cafes. Explore the Limassol Castle in the historic, recently renovated and stylish Old Town area and purchase a natural sea sponge as a souvenir from the Old Port Sea Sponges Exhibition Center.

Visitors with chidren can enjoy a day splashing at Fasouri Watermania, a large waterpark with a wave pool, lazy river, and all kinds of fun rides for all ages.

Admire the beautiful coastline at Petra tou Romiou on the southwest coast in Paphos, an impressive natural site said to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek mythological goddess of love and beauty.

Spend a summer day soaking up the sun and swimming in the crystal clear water at Nissi beach in the resort town of Ayia Napa, one of the most famous white-sand beaches on the island and a popular spot for tourists and locals. At night you can enjoy a meal at a wide choice of restaurants with live entertainment options.

To fully capture the beauty of Cyprus, sample the local dessert favourite, Gliko tou Koutaliou ‘spoon sweets’ which are preserved fruits dipped in honey or syrup.
