Transiting at Doha

Qatar Airways is pleased to offer a convenient transit hotel accommodation for customers who face extended transit times in Doha en route to their final destination.

This service is available on a paid or complimentary basis depending on eligibility. 

Flight itineraries involving departures or arrivals from the following cities will be ineligible for this service due to our higher flight frequencies:  Abu Dhabi (AUH), Bahrain (BAH), Dubai (DXB), Kuwait (KWI) and Muscat (MCT ).

Also, flights departing from Germany or return flights to Germany are ineligible for transit hotel accommodation.

Eligible customers will be offered the following services:

  • Al Maha greet service at Doha International Airport (First & Business Class customers)
  • Temporary entry visa fee to Doha, Qatar*
  • Airport-hotel-Airport transfers
  • 5-star hotel accommodation for First & Business Class customers
  • 3-star hotel accommodation for Economy Class customers.
  • Meals: breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner (dependent on the duration of the stay)

*Confirmation of your hotel at Doha does not guarantee entry into the State of Qatar. This is entirely at the discretion of the Qatar Immigration Authority. Qatar Airways is not liable in the event entry is not permitted, in spite of a hotel booking.

Customer eligibility

You may be eligible for transit hotel accommodation in Doha, if you meet the following criteria: 

  • Are travelling with Qatar Airways,*
  • There are no Qatar Airways flights with immediate connection (for the required date of travel date of travel irrespective of fare level or availability,
  • You have a transit time of between 8 and 24 hours at Doha International Airport
  • The type and level of airfare that you pay will govern whether you will receive the service free of charge (complimentary) or if you must pay to recieve this service.

*Codeshare/partner carriers: This service is offered on itineraries with codeshare partners, if one of the flights is operated by Qatar Airways and the other flight is marketed by Qatar Airways but operated by another airline.

Transit accommodation

If Qatar Airways considers your itinerary eligible for free of charge (complimentary) hotel accommodation, this will be made to customers at no additional cost.

If customers are not eligible for free of charge (complimentary) hotel accommodation, customers can choose to pay for this service and is governed by your class of travel:

  • First & Business Class customers: 150 USD fee per person
  • Economy Class customers: 125 USD fee per person
  • Infants & Children: There are no charges for Infants, whilst children’s fees will be the same rate as adults

Collecting your transit hotel voucher

If you have booked this service as part of your Qatar Airways journey, please follow these steps upon arrival at Doha International Airport. The most important step is to obtain your hotel voucher.

A hotel voucher is required at immigration for your temporary visa to enter Qatar and at the hotel to obtain your room and meals. 

Your baggage will be checked through to your final destination. Therefore, we recommend that anything you may need during you transit stay in Doha, such as medication, to be placed in your hand baggage.

First & Business Class

At Doha International Airport:

  1. Please proceed to the prebooked hotel counter in the main arrivals terminal.
  2. You will be assisted by an Al Maha airport services representative who will arrange your hotel voucher, guide you through the immigration process, and introduce you to a hotel representative for your hotel transfer.


At the hotel:

  1. Please present your hotel voucher at the front desk to complete your check-in.


Transferring back to the airport: 

  1. The hotel will furnish a car that will transport you back to the airport where you can check-in and enjoy the 5-star facilities at our Premium Terminal.
  2. In view of Airport Security and Immigration procedures, we recommend that you check-out from your hotel at least two (2) hours prior to your flight (3 hours if travelling to the USA).

Economy Class

At Doha International Airport:

  1. Please proceed to the prebooked hotel counter in the main arrivals terminal.
  2. Our staff will assist you with completing the necessary documents and will provide you with your hotel voucher.
  3. Upon receiving the voucher, please proceed to the immigration counter for clearance. The hotel’s representative will be waiting for you at the arrival’s hall for your hotel transfer.


At the hotel:

  1. Please present your hotel voucher at the front desk to complete your check-in.


Transferring back to the airport:

  1. The hotel will furnish transportation back to the airport where you can proceed directly to immigration and then on to your gate.
  2. In view of Airport Security and Immigration procedures, we recommend that you check-out from your hotel at least two (2) hours prior to your flight (3 hours if travelling to the USA).

Explore the city

With a longer stopover, you have the option of exploring Doha but you’ll need a visa first. Citizens of certain countries can obtain visas on arrival but it’s best to arrange for one before you travel.

Catch a taxi or limousine

Modern taxis are widely available and can be picked up at the airport or various locations throughout the city.Limousines can also be arranged at the airport from a number of private car firms. Or you can use the Mowasalat bus service, which has routes throughout Doha.

Stroll along the corniche

Delight in a casual walk along the Corniche—a favourite vista among residents. Snap photos in front of Doha’s luminous coastline and inspiring skyline or enjoy a meal at one of the many local restaurants.

Take advantage of tax-free shopping

Enjoy tax-free shopping at any of Doha’s many shopping malls—only a short car ride from the airport. Choose from City Centre, Landmark, Hyatt Plaza, The Mall, Royal Plaza, or Villagio malls.

If you have more than 8 hours to spend...

Hotel accommodation for long transits passengers

For passengers with longer stopovers—between 8 and 24 hours—Qatar Airways provides accommodation, meals, and ground transportation. This complimentary service is available to Qatar Airways customers meeting select route and fare class requirements.

You may opt to pay for this benefit if you are flying a route or itinerary that is not eligible for the complimentary service as long as no immediate (less than 8 hours) connections are available. However, you must book this service at least 72 hours before arriving in Doha.

  • Economy Class passengers: USD 125 per person
  • First and Business Class passengers: USD 150 per person (includes Al-Maha meet and greet
