International aviation emissions and their impact on climate change are a global concern. As a partner of the Aviation Global Deal Group, we recognize the aviation sector’s responsibility to assist global efforts to reduce emissions. Together, we are striving to develop a fair, practical, and effective solution to address aviation emissions in a new global climate change agreement.
We are preparing to comply with the European Union Emissions Trading System, which aims to cost-effectively reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions. The system will begin to include airlines at the start of 2012.
In June 2009, Qatar Airways was elected to the Environment Committee of the International Air Transport Association, the world’s foremost airline trade association. As a member of IATA ENCOM, we are working with the entire airline industry to help reduce its impact on the environment.
