Book a flight to Langkawi from India with Qatar Airways

Book a flight to Langkawi with Qatar Airways and you’ll be ready to visit one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world. Consisting of 104 islands, Langkawi is known as ‘the Jewel of Kedah’. Here, you’ll find timeless rain forests and spotless beaches, peppered with relics from ancient civilisations. In 2007, the islands were declared an UNESCO World Heritage site, in recognition of the important diversity of life and geology the islands play host to.

While it might be a paradise for lovers of wildlife and history, there’s also plenty for more modern-minded travellers, with a stunning array of cultural attractions, excellent shopping and superb places to eat. Flights to Langkawi can be caught from most international airports, introducing you to islands that are brimming with beauty.

Tourist attractions

You can’t really miss Dataran Lang, a 12-foot sculpture of an eagle, wings spread and ready to launch itself into the skies. However, there’s more than the eagle to enjoy; Dataran Lang watches over some stunning fountains and fairy-tale bridges, giving plenty of opportunity to take some superb photographs. However, if you’d prefer something with a little more adrenaline involved, catch a ride on the Langkawi Cable Car and be rewarded with stupendous views of the dense rainforests, sapphire seas and the other islands in the archipelago.

If you’re travelling to Langkawi with children then be sure to set aside some time for a visit to Underwater World Langkawi. Here, visitors can enjoy the colourful spectacle of a range of exotic birds or walk through the underwater tunnel and get superb views of some of the sea’s fiercest predators and beautiful fish. However, if the idea of being under so much seawater doesn’t appeal, then the Langkawi Bird Paradise offers the chance to see birds such as flamingos, toucans and canaries in stunning surroundings.

To incorporate some local folklore into a great family day out, your trip to Langkawi ought to take in a visit to Taman Lagenda Langkawi. This is a beautiful park, populated with sculptures featuring the heroes, villains and monsters from Langkawi myth and legend.

Leisure activities

The spotless sands of Langkawi’s beaches are something of an attraction themselves. While all the beaches are stunning, to make the most of your trip to Langkawi, make sure that you pay a visit to Pantai Cenang Beach, which must lay claim to being Langkawi’s most popular beach. Teluk Yu Beach offers an equally-impressive beach experience, but is more secluded than Pantai Cenang. Pantai Telak Burau is popular, partly due to the stunning views of the other islands, mountains and the lush rainforests.

If you want to factor in some cultural immersion, Air Hangat Village is the perfect place to go. A modern cultural complex, you’ll find a variety of attractions, including a theatre and a saltwater hot-spring, surrounded by a beautiful mural, made from river stones.

Eating in Langkawi

If you’re travelling to Langkawi in search of good food, then you'll discover that  there’s plenty of choice, thanks to a diverse range of restaurants serving everything from burgers to seafood. However, you can’t take a trip to Langkawi and not sample some of the local cuisine.

The best districts to head for are the beaches of Pantai Kok, Pantai Tengah and Pantai Cenang and Kuah Town. Here, you can sample sublime and spicy dishes of curried meat and fish, often served with rice cooked in fragrant coconut milk. Noodles are another popular dish and are cooked with spices, vegetables and meat or fish.

Shopping in Langkawi

Next to the pristine beaches, the superb shopping is the main reason that most people decide to travel to Langkawi. There are plenty of shopping areas to discover, such as the malls and retail outlets in Kuah Town.

If you’re looking for retail therapy with a view, then Pantai Cenang offers the chance to buy hand-crafted goods and holiday essentials, against a beautiful, sun-splashed backdrop. Pantai Tengah is widely regarded as one of the best places to shop and boasts vibrant, outdoor markets where you can buy antiques and curios.
