Simply charming, simply Colombo. You’re sure to fall in love with the warm and welcoming locals of this enchanting island at the tip of South India. People here go about their business in the noisy, congested streets of the city with a cheerfulness that is endearing. Perhaps that’s down to their Buddhist faith, a religion practiced by the majority of Sri Lankans. The city is home to some extraordinary temples. But take a stroll and you’ll also fi nd mosques and churches plus a jumble of Dutch-and British-built buildings—a legacy of Colombo’s colonial past.
Colombo is divided into districts (or postcodes) numbered 1-15 and knowing this is essential if you’re to fi nd your way around. South along the coast from Fort, is the district
known as Colombo 1, Colombo 2-10 are where many topend hotels are located. These districts continue inland taking in the fashionable shopping and residential areas
of Colombo 7, while Colombo 11-15 spread northeast covering the harbour area. But one thing is for sure—wherever you go in the city you’ll fi nd history, culture and friendly locals.
