With flights from Rome to Male with Qatar Airways offering a whole range of in-flight, award-winning services, flying to the Maldivian capital has never been so comfortable. Start your journey by dining on a select choice of delectable in-flight cuisine and enjoying our collection of in-flight entertainment options throughout the flight. By the time you reach Male you’ll be completely relaxed and stress-free, whether you’re travelling there for business or pleasure.
Male is located at the tip of an atoll and is surrounded by crystal clear waters and exotic coral reefs. Diving is almost obligatory here, but the city itself has a whole host of attractions to enjoy too. Old gates and fortifications are the legacy of former colonial occupiers, and venerable structures like the Male Friday Mosque add grace and charm to a densely populated metropolis. Sultan Park is great for a leisurely stroll before sunset or in the early morning.
Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport is the larger of two key airports serving Rome and the surrounding region.
Its location close to the Italian capital makes this an important international air hub, yet it manages to maintain a friendly and relaxed atmosphere that focuses on creating a pleasant environment for inbound and outbound travellers.
Passengers flying from Fiumicino with Qatar Airways will find the airport to be well organised, efficient and spacious, with excellent facilities, particularly its very good coffee vendors and luxury leather good outlets.
Transportation and parking
The Leonardo Express train service runs every 30 minutes to and from Rome's Termini railway station, and takes approximately 35 minutes, making it the quickest and most direct route from the centre of Rome to the airport.
FL1 local trains also run to the airport regularly. If you are planning to travel by taxi then do allow extra time for your journey, due to Rome’s legendary traffic congestion, and only take a white, licensed and metred taxi and not the unofficial taxis that throng the major tourist spots and hotels.
Arriving at Fiumicino
Passengers flying from Fiumicino with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 3. Be aware that due to a serious fire in May 2015, some parts of the terminal are currently being repaired.
However, all check-in desks are currently operational. Allow approximately two hours from the scheduled departure time of your flight to check in and clear security.
Facilities and amenities
There are several lounges for the use of passengers, including VIP lounges for First Class and Business Class travellers. Business users also have access to meeting rooms, office space and business services in Terminal 1.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport, and there is full accessibility for disabled passengers, including a specially adapted lounge that can accommodate wheelchair users.
A good choice of retail outlets provide a selection of high quality goods (look out in particular for some excellent leather goods and accessories), and a food hall provides everything from light snacks and refreshments to exceptionally good Italian and international cuisine.
Arriving in Hulhulé after a flight to the Maldives with Qatar Airways, the first thing that will strike you is that this genuinely is a tropical island paradise.
Largely unknown among tourists until the 1970s, the Maldives are today one of the top luxury destinations in the world. Crystal clear oceans, white sandy beaches and swaying palm trees – the Maldives are the epitome of a tropical holiday destination.
The collection of over 1,100 coral islands means that the most common method of transport is by boat or seaplane. Island hopping is a great way to experience the delights above water.
Under the waves there is a second paradise waiting to be explored, and the Maldives offers some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world.
The Maldives is different to many destinations in that there are relatively few attractions to visit on land. The main attractions of the islands are natural, rather than man-made, so to discover the very best of the islands’ riches you will need to don a swimsuit and head out with one of the many diving parties to explore the coral reefs.
Filled with brilliantly coloured fish and a wealth of natural wonders, the waters of the Maldives offer a rich tapestry of aquatic colour and beauty.
If you’re not a swimmer or prefer to stay on dry land then a visit to the nation’s capital island of Malé for some casual shopping and to see the ‘real’ Maldives away from the custom-made resorts of the islands.
Flights to the Maldives with Qatar Airways land at Malé International Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure.
