A Destination Guide to Melbourne
Melbourne is the second-largest city in Australia and the capital of the south-eastern state of Victoria, located at the head of Port Phillip Bay. Melbourne is considered by many to be Australia’s cultural capital. The city offers a broad array of Victorian-era architecture, extensive shopping, many cultural attractions such as museums, galleries, theatres, and large parks. Melbourne's population is 3.8 million.  People visit Melbourne for a plethora of reasons, including major sporting events, to use as a base for exploring surrounding regions such as Grampians National Park, The Great Ocean Road, and to visit Phillip Island to view the penguin parade.
The Great Ocean Drive
One of the most scenic drives of the world, the Great Ocean Road, starts at Torquay and winds its way 247 kilometres to Warrnambool. The road hugs the coast the entire way, offering fantastic glimpses of rugged cliffs, small sandy coves, spectacular rock formations and quaint fishing villages. The highlight is at the Twelve Apostles, a unique group of 12 rock formations in the Port Campbell National Park that jut out of the sea. Qatar Airways looks forward to taking you to Melbourne, where you can experience this fantastic terrain for yourself.
