Book a flight to Kilimanjaro from Bahrain with Qatar Airways

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, and when you book a flight to Kilimanjaro with Qatar Airways you’ll experience a landscape that hasn’t changed in millennia. The world’s highest free-standing mountain has its own ecosystem and is located in the middle of Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro National Park. Fly to Kilimanjaro and you’re in the heart of Africa, full of elephants, leopards, buffaloes and many endangered species.

Tourist attractions

Kilimanjaro is the gateway to the Ngorongoro conservation area as well as the Serengeti National Park, while the Kilimanjaro International Airport is strategically situated within a close proximity to the Northern circuit.

Apart from actually climbing the mountain, there’s a lot of other stuff to see and do during your trip to Kilimanjaro. These understandably mostly involve wildlife and the landscape’s dramatic features. The Materuni and Kinukamori waterfalls, for example, are quite spectacular and have their own indigenous flora and fauna, especially birds and monkeys. Lake Chala in the foothills of the mountain is a great volcanic lake, and a tour will take you to the heartland of the Chagga tribe. Trips to Kilimanjaro should also take in a game drive around the slopes, using a camera to capture pictures of the wildlife.

Leisure activities

A trip to Kilimanjaro is clearly going to be an activity holiday, and there are lots of different tours and treks to choose from depending on your tastes. The easiest way to get up the mountain, for instance, is via the Marangu Route, which is the most popular and takes it in easy stages.

The most scenic route up is the Machame Route, which is for the more adventurous climber. On the Lemosho Route you’d need to be accompanied by an armed ranger because of the less than friendly wildlife you’re likely to encounter.

Eating in Kilimanjaro

As you’d expect, there aren’t any restaurants around here and food comes courtesy of the cooks and porters who accompany you on your tour. Bring some high-energy food along such as chocolate, as the food quality will fall towards the end of the tour as supplies shrink. This is all part of the fun, however, and as long as you drink your 3 litres of water each day you should be just fine.

Shopping in Kilimanjaro

If you’re travelling to Kilimanjaro for shopping you may have got on the wrong plane! Don’t expect any department stores or designer boutiques on the slopes. On the other hand, a few Tanzanian shillings can go a long way with entrepreneurial members of the indigenous Chagga tribe. You can pick up some authentic beads or craftwork.

Most of your shopping will have been done before you get here, with items like sleeping bags, malaria tablets and climbing equipment being the main priorities.

Cultural considerations

Formal greetings are the main things to look out for in Tanzania. They’re taken very seriously and you should smile and say ‘jambo’ before launching into any conversation, even if your Swahili is a little rusty.

When you travel to Kilimanjaro you should also keep your knees and shoulders covered in public. Tip the cook, porter and guide at end of your tour, as this is expected.

Travel requirements

Qatar Airways flights to Kilimanjaro land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. It is close to the ‘Northern circuit’ which includes renowned tourist honey pots such as Mount Kilimanjaro, The Serengeti National park as well as the Ngorongoro conservation area.

Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. So before you fly to Kilimanjaro please check the visa and passport requirements.
