Casablanca is the economic and industrial heart of Morocco, and one of the country’s most delightful and cosmopolitan cities. It’s also the largest, with a thriving medina and a bustling ville nouvelle, a legacy of the days of French colonialism. Casablanca’s awesome and enormous Hassan II mosque is a celebrated landmark that you shouldn’t miss, and the city has numerous smart restaurants that specialise in Moroccan and international fare.
Bahrain Airport is undergoing a massive expansion, with two new terminals due to open soon. A host of carriers, including Qatar Airways, are already making Bahrain one of their focal departure hubs.
Bahrain Airport’s elegant and peaceful Dilmun Lounge and a host of services designed to make your trip more convenient and relaxing have made Bahrain one of the favourite departure points for passengers flying from the Middle East.
Transportation and parking
Passengers arriving at the airport by car may be dropped off with their luggage at the front of the terminal at the departures level. Car parks are located directly opposite the terminals for fast access to both check-in and arrivals.
A fleet of taxis are on stand-by to transport you to and from major centres, such as Muharraq, Manama, Saar and Riffa, while luxury limousines can also be hired.
All major rental car agencies are represented at the airport, and rental car desks are located in the public arrivals concourse on the ground floor of the terminal.
Arriving at Bahrain International Airport
Airline check-in desks are located directly in front of the escalators and lifts on Level 1.
Check-in for Business and First Class passengers is located to the left of the main foyer, while VIP travellers will be directed to the exclusive VIP Gate.
Facilities and amenities
Throughout the terminal you’ll find an excellent selection of amenities and facilities. A large duty-free area is positioned directly behind the check-in counters, while the exclusive Gulf Air lounge and Irish lounge are situated on Level 2.
Immortalised in film and legend, Casablanca has a charisma and appeal that attracts visitors from all over the world. Its bazaars and marketplaces are offset by a modern and forward-looking city that is developing into an African powerhouse for industry. But away from the new buildings and commercial centre the old ‘Casa’ is still there to be discovered.
Book a flight to Casablanca with Qatar Airways and you can explore this romantic city. Lose yourself among the spice stalls of the old Medina, or find a little peace and tranquillity from the hustle and bustle at the Hassan II Mosque.
Some parts of Casablanca have been ‘westernised’, but it is still possible to find attractions that give you a real flavour of the traditional culture of Morocco. The Shrine of Sidi Abderrahman is a unique and isolated site offshore (the shrine itself is only accessible during low tide).
The Mahkama du Pacha is a Moorish-Hispanic building that has been decorated in typical Moroccan style and is an ornate fusion of delicately carved wooden ceilings and stunningly tiled floors. It showcases the very best in Moroccan design.
For a respite from the heat and dust of the city, head to the beautifully maintained Parc de la Ligue Arabe. On the outskirts of the park is Casablanca Cathedral, which is no longer used for worship but is a fine example of Mauresque architecture.
Finally, Casablanca takes its sport seriously, and there are numerous stadiums dotted throughout the city. A football match is a great way to experience authentic Casablancan life.
