Visit Hofuf, the biggest city in the Al-Ahsa governorate, located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Al Ahsa is the largest oasis in Saudi Arabia with numerous picturesque villages and large date farms, while Hofuf is known for its many historical buildings and archaeological sites.
There are numerous attractions for those wishing to experience the rich history in the region. Visit Qasr Ibrahim, which is a castle that was built during the Ottoman rule, combining Islamic and military architecture, it was renovated in the 19th century. For an archaeological adventure, visit the site of the Jawatha Mosque, built in the seventh year of hijra (ca. 629 AD). Most of the mosque’s original structure has been lost and only five small mud-brick arches remain.
Around 13 km east of Hofuf, you can visit Jabal Qara, known for its peculiar rock formations, deep limestone caves and narrow canyons. At the base of the mountain, you can buy some local pottery from one of the shops, with local artisanal products.
Visitors with families can enjoy a visit to the King Abdullah fountain,which has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the largest fountains in the world. The fountain is located in a new 500,000 square metre park which hosts modern entertainment, recreational and dining facilities.
